navigating the second Gilded Age through humor, invective and insight

“Even the gods fight in vain against stupidity” – Friedrich Schiller

Those Crafty Republican Assholes!

I’m referring here to Republican electeds and masterminds, not rank & file Republican voters.
Although I do wonder sometimes why they support such an obviously anti-social enterprise…

You have to hand it to the Republican Party. For decades — all my life — they’ve been preaching about the need for less government, and particularly less Federal government, devolving more responsibility onto states and local communities. All so we don’t have a one-size-fits-all country and instead have a country which tolerates and embraces different viewpoints.

Turns out that was all pure, unadulterated bullshit. Just a ploy to hide their true aim.

Which was to create a one-size-fits-all-country that mocks anyone who isn’t financially successful, White, and a proper Christian. Preferably all three. With preference and deference given to heterosexual males, of course.

This is clearly demonstrated by His Imperial Majesty Trump the First’s issuing divine edicts that no President has the Constitutional authority to enact. While the Republican Congress watches silently as he abrogates their Constitutional authority. Or, worse yet, cheers from the sidelines as he makes a mockery of our intentionally-divided-to-preserve-liberty federal government.

It all reminds me of the one and only good line in all three Star Wars prequels, delivered after the Galactic Assembly grants Chancellor Palpatine “temporary” supreme power:

“I guess that’s how democracy dies, to thunderous applause”

Senator Padmé Amidala
(Luke & Leia’s mom)

It’s enough to make any real American — you know, the kind that may strongly disagree with you but doesn’t feel compelled to force you to adopt his views so long as you reciprocate — sick.

But we shouldn’t get sick. No, we should get fighting mad! Because, goddamn it, it’s our country, too!

His Imperial Majesty Speaks!

mostly incoherently, but still…

“CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD, Manhattan, and all of New York is SAVED. LONG LIVE THE KING!
